Carolina Pride Pastures

An alpaca farm located in Newberry County, Carolina Pride Pastures raises Huacaya (common breed) and Suri (rare breed) alpacas as well as other critters like chickens, ducks, rabbits, and llamas. Their Great Pyrenees (livestock guardian dog) Elsa watches over the farm family. This farm was established in 2013 and welcomes visitors during special events as well as on Saturdays for self-guided farm tours and visits to their farm store.

Visitor with Alpaca “candy” treats for the herd

The self-guided tours are $5 per person (kids under 3 are free) and include a downloadable map that is emailed to you upon payment. During your self-guided tour, you will learn all about the animals on the farm and what is needed for each of them to survive and thrive. The staff at Carolina Pride may be available to answer your questions (although not always). Their trail map gives visitors the opportunity to learn fun facts about a variety of farm animals. They even provide take-home worksheets (through email or in their farm store) so you can help the kids recall the fun and learning experience after your tour. Bring quarters to purchase “candy” to feed to the alpacas. This place is absolutely great for pictures… alpacas love to photobomb! Self-guided tours are available on Saturdays at either 1pm or 2pm. You can find tickets here.

Baby alpacas are known as “crias”.

The farm store at Carolina Pride is filled with all things alpaca and llama. Find one-of-a-kind handmade gifts and alpaca yarn produced by the alpacas on the farm. Make your own cowl, scarf or hand-warmers with their ready-to-knit-or-crochet kits. They also sell t-shirts, toys, dryer balls, and more. The store is open on Saturdays from 10am – 2pm and during special events.

DIY kits are available in the farm store.

On Saturday, September 25th and Sunday, September 26th (2021), Carolina Pride is hosting National Alpaca Day with farm store, vendors, food truck, and family fun. It’s free to attend, but you’ll need a ticket. Find one here.

Free event the last weekend in September! Click for tickets.

Carolina Pride Pastures also hosts an annual Alpaca Shearing event each spring and participates in Ag + Art each summer. Visit their website or their Facebook page to keep up with the latest fun!
