The folks at Herd It Here (gotta love that name!) are passionate about sharing their farming experiences with others. These people know their stuff and are devoted to educating others about their “herds”. They love all their animals and get great joy when visitors leave with smiles on their faces! So make plans to visit this farm soon. It’s located at 541 Sullivans Ferry Road, Cottageville, SC 29435 (between Walterboro and Summerville in Colleton County).

During their Farm Tours, visitors learn what it’s like to live and work on a small farm. The farmers talk to you about the animals that they have which include a miniature horse and miniature donkey, a rescue Quarter horse, alpacas, fancy chickens, pygmy, and fainting goats – and they’ll soon be adding miniature Scottish Highland cows. Miniature cows? Yes! I want to see them. During the tour, the farmer explains to visitors how they got each animal, the history behind them, how the animals are taken care of, and how they train them. Guests are able to get up close and personal with each animal, including taking selfies with the alpacas and enjoying goat kisses! Farm tours are $10.50 per adult and $5.25 for children. Make your reservation here.

Once a month, they offer a very unique experience, helping with Herd Health Day. During this 3 – 4 hour session, they go through their monthly animal husbandry and medical check-up tasks. They limit this experience to no more than 3 guests so that each person is able to really connect with the animals. (August 2021 date is sold out, but the September event will be September 8th from 8 am – 11 am.)

In addition, they periodically have goat yoga, where participants and the fainting goats get on the ground together. It’s hilarious!!

Their Country Store is open whenever they have visitors on the farm. They offer alpaca clothing products and accessories and other local artisan products.

They’re open every Saturday for tours at 10:00 am, 11:30 am, and 1:30 pm. In addition, during the Summer, they’re open various other days during the week. You can check their website to see when tours are scheduled and make your reservations. More here.
