Historic Newberry Walking Tour

Old mileage marker

Newberry South Carolina has a rich and interesting past and well-preserved historic buildings and sites in its downtown. A walking tour is the perfect way to appreciate its significance and the City of Newberry offers a Historic Downtown Newberry Map Tour on their website.

24 of the 34 sites on the map are easily within walking distance of each other. 10 are a bit further away, on the outskirts of town. Among the downtown sites, you’ll discover a 19th century opera house, a 1920’s filling station, war memorials, old courthouse, historic churches, original schools, and the newly opened Newberry Museum – housed in the 1911 post office (later a public library). The museum tells the story of not only Newberry from its founding, but also extensive Newberry College history and the history of communities elsewhere in Newberry County.
