Caesar’s Head State Park Observation Platform – A granitic gneiss outcropping atop the dramatic Blue Ridge Escarpment gives Caesars Head State Park its name.
Our Mountains
The “Upstate” is an area in the northwestern portion of our state that is marked by piedmont (the sloping terrain leading to the mountains) and by the majestic mountains themselves. Part of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the range is found in Oconee County, PIckens County and Greenville County. The highest point is Sassafras Mountain (3554 ft) in Pickens County on the border with North Carolina. The major cities in the Upstate include Greenville, Anderson and Spartanburg, all included in this website. Smaller towns and cities, each with its own unique characteristics and virtues, are part of the Upstate and bear many reasons to visit. We hope to include these communities in the future. We do include their events on our South Carolina Connector weekly newsletter, which can be subscribed here.
